The innovative architectural concept of the Wine Museum Bordeaux (La Cité du Vin) references to the liquid turbulence of poured wine. Each and every detail of its architecture evokes the wine’s soul and liquid nature: ‘seamless roundness, intangible and sensual’ (XTU Architects). This roundness is transcribed in the building’s exterior that is composed of more than 13 500 m² cladding spread over 10 levels culminating at 55 meters. The heart of the rounded facade consists of double curved aluminum composite panels lacquered in an iridescent Pyrite Gold Silver coating system with satin gloss. Changing with the sunshine or the time of day, this buildings truly breathes wine, while its golden shimmer reminiscent of the light stone - found on Bordeaux facades - dialogues with the Garonne river through its reflections.
